The city of Albany has been on my mind of late. It has a perfectly good flag reflecting its Dutch and Native american heritage, but I can't help a just for fun proposal for a new city flag, as some have been referring to it as Albanya
Island of Misfit Thoughts. This is just a collection of random unconnected thoughts and ideas; a mental junk drawer really. I do not wish to be offensive, but probably will wind up doing just that due to my sense of humor. If I've inadvertently posted your photo just say the word and it comes down

Brooklyn of the Berkshires?
My Partner's hometown is Pittsfield, MA - a working class town that has suffered from the decline of industry, like so many others. I can't quite explain it, but I secretly fell in love with the place. The centralized, pedestrian downtown is so Any-Town USA. A perfect pedestrian friendly small city with a little of everything, a theater, a museum, stores, once a beautiful train station (demolished), a large family owned department store (also demolished) - much of the wonderful architecture has been preserved and the city just has so much potential. there is a thriving arts scene north and south of it, and now, just perhaps it seems to be drawing in some of that scene that it kept out for so long. Perhaps Pittsfield has turned a corner. Fix it up, and I'd be happy to live there for, quite a long time - despite the winters.
Here's the article from the financial times that got me so excited: http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/2/61d71254-bba0-11df-89b6-00144feab49a.html
Also check out Gregory Crewdson's photos of Pittsfield; dark, but fantastic

New Word - Emotionalbation
I coined a new word - Emotionalbation - the over indulgent exploitation of emotion catharsis in entertainment. See Sandra Oh's crying striptease in Blue Iguana
